How we use AI on your footage
To make footage searchable, Chronicle analyses it with AI models that run on Chronicle's own computer in our office. Your footage is never sent to an outside AI service.
What is analysed
- Shots: where each shot starts and ends, and a short description of what's visible.
- Speech: a transcript with timings, and which voice is speaking (not who they are).
- Text on screen, everyday objects, any equipment words you ask us to look for, and sounds such as music or applause.
- An "image fingerprint" of each shot, so you can search by meaning and find similar shots.
Faces are off unless you ask
Face recognition is switched off for every client. We only turn it on when you've confirmed in writing that your releases or registrations cover it. When it's on, we keep small face thumbnails and numeric face fingerprints, never full frames; faces are only grouped within your own footage, never matched against other clients or the internet, and only Chronicle staff put names to faces.
Turning faces off deletes all of that data. Face data is also deleted 24 months after your last activity, and within 30 days if a person asks us to remove them.
